The Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek is a strenuous trek gaining the maximum altitude of 5,360m/17,580ft (French Pass) and 5258m /17240ft at Thapa Pass simultaneously. The trek requires 6-8 hours of walk everyday.
High altitude hikes are always physically demanding, however you should not be put off by this as long as you are in good health and have some experience of high altitude hikes. For those not possessing any previous high altitude hiking experience we strongly recommend undergoing a regular fitness session for at least 2-3 months prior to actually joining this trip.  Activities like walking, jogging, swimming are always good ways in improving one’s physical condition and thus keeping in shape. Although we do not required any special previous experience for this trip, it is still a very tough undertaking and the more fitter you are the better chances you have in completing the trip successfully.  In addition to physical fitness, you must also have positive attitude and a strong determination to complete the trip. People with pre-existing medical condition and concerned with their ability for this trip should consult their physician for any special precautions that might be helpful in preventing any forms of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) and completing the trip successfully.
