Treks Notes

Solu – Khumbu regions of Nepal is without doubt, the major centre for mountaineering and trekking activities in the world. The region attracts a large number of visitors whose interests vary from a simple stroll along the trails to the major mountaineering expedition. Home to world’s highest mountain - the Mt. Everest (848m), and several other giants as well as the thundering rivers and gores the region offers diverse recreational and adventure activities. What adds excitement to a visit to this region is also the opportunity to mingle and learn about the culture of infamous Sherpa people inhabiting most of the region. The prayer flags, Mani walls, Stupas and Gompas certainly bring additional flavor to these activities.

Although there are alternative routes to venturing into this region (mainly the classic route of Jiri used during the first successful ascent of Mt. Everest, by Hilary and Tenzing) many visitors tend to opt for the option of flying into Lukla which serves as the gateway to the region. A 35 minutes flight from Kathmandu is all that is needed to step into this life time experiential adventure. After landing at Lukla and following a brief reorientation with the rest of the crew members the journey begins with a trek along the Dudh Koshi valley bring in sight the mesmerizing vistas of the region as well as the cultural insights of the people. Normally we overnight in Phakding situated in the bank of the Bhote Koshi river, in our first day of trek from Lukla involving some 3-4 hours of easy walk and make to Namche Bazaar the following day we rest for acclimatization or go for a short side trip to Thame or Khumjung.

From Namche the walk is mostly steep gaining the gradual height to Kala Patthar or Everest Base Camp. Most people prefer to do the both yet Kala Patthar provides the best panorama of the whole range of snowy peaks from Everest to Nuptse and Lhotse. There is always the choice of either doing both or the only one depending how you feel and how well you have acclimatized. In any case, given the dearth of information available on the internet, we hope you will be able to select the one that suit you best or alternatively you can always share your ideas with us and we device the best travel itinerary for you.
