A Typical Trekking Day

Please note that all of our Itineraries (including the Everest ones) are designed in a way so as to provide you the maximum flexibility for self exploration. While if you have a very limited time and still want to trek up to certain destination, we will have no problems in designing such itineraries. Yet, what we can suggest from our working experience is you need enough time to get used to the new surrounding and be at ease in undertaking the activities at a slow pace without us rushing you. On many occasions, it is also found to be extremely valuable if the clients can themselves craft the itineraries or at least give us some ideas as to what sorts or time duration they have available and what particular activities they would be most interested in.

In any way, with regard to the Everest region trekking, each day can differ from the previous day depending on the weather and trail condition, and the availability of water. Though there have not been many instances where we were obliged to alter the proposed itineraries, it is however, possible that at times we need to take into account the existing realities in the trail which goes beyond our control and could essentially force us to alternate the itineraries slightly. If for example if any one suffers from the altitude sickness, if the weather and trail conditions become difficult to walk through, the trek leader has the responsibility to act accordingly and bring you to a safe shelter before the condition becomes favorable to walk again. These minor changes do not necessary change the proposed itinerary drastically but could delay us for some time. Moreover it is also necessary to note that the weather condition, especially in Lukla (and in Kathmandu to a lesser extent), during the monsoon season does not always allow favor the regular flights to either of each ends and may have to be cancelled for days. Because of this when planning a trip in the Everest region and if flying in our out, it is always wise to set aside a day or two in case flights from and to get cancelled.

Normally during the Everest trek (as well as all others) the day usually begins with a cup of bed tea brought to you by one of our staff. After that you have the time to pack your gear and get yourself ready for breakfast while the porters load your bulky stuff along with the majority of the group equipment before heading off along the trail. We normally hit the trail around 7.30 -8.00 am and stop over for lunch break somewhere around 11-12.00 pm at any of the lodges along the trail. The post lunch walk usually finishes around5-6.00 pm followed by dinner at 7-8.00 pm.
The lodges along the trail are also known as teahouses and are essentially sort of very basic providing accommodation as well as hygienic and nutritious food. Though the standard of accommodation could as well differ from places to places such as Lukla, Phakding, Namche and Phiriche with standard or deluxe accommodation facilities, the other places in contrast will have relatively basic facilities but with enough amenities essential for a good night’s rest and comfort.

Although basic by Kathmandu standard, accommodation in these tea houses are a great opportunity to mingle with the locals sharing each other’s experiences / stories and cutting jokes. Evening times are mostly filled with sitting around the cozy dining hall discussing and playing cards or even singing and dancing becoming a part of the fun filled experience for most of the trekkers once they return home.
