Nepal Visa

All foreign nationals except Indians need a visa to enter Nepal. Nationals from the South Asian Regional Corporation (SAARC) are also exempted for visa fees to Nepal for a stay up to 30 days.


Tourist visas are issued on arrival with a minimum of fuss at the Kathmandu airport and at official overland entry points (please click here for a complete list of overland entry points to Nepal).  However, please note that the following nationals will not receive Nepal entry visa on  their arrival at the Nepal immigration entry points; Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan and are required to obtain their Nepalese visas from the Nepalese mission or consulate abroad.


Nepalese visa can also be obtained from Nepalese Embassies and Consulate abroad (please click here for listing). If wishing to obtain a visa upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, please bring a passport size photo and if possible please also bring the exact change for the visa fee.  At the airport you are required to pay at the Nepalese rupees and will have to change the money at the airport counter situated next to the visa desk. At overland entry points, on the other hand officials accept only US dollars.

Nepal Visa Requirement:

Tourists can stay for a maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Jan 01 - Dec 31) extending the Nepal visa at the rate of US$2 per day. However, a minimum amount of US$30 has to be paid for an extension period of 15 days or less
Visa extensions up to two months can be made at the Nepal Immigration offices in Kathmandu and Pokhara
Tourists departing before expiry of the visa period specified in one visa year cannot add the remaining period to another visa year.

If any tourist entering Nepal towards the end of a visa year desires to spend even the period during which s/he may stay in Nepal with the tourist visa of the next visa year, s/he may use such facility, provided, however, that the computation of the fees for such period shall be made on the basis of the total period of her/his stay.

Any foreigner who has overstayed without renewal of the validity of the tourist Nepal visa, a fine of Nepalese currency equivalent to US$3 per day shall be levied in addition to the normal amount to be paid for renewal of the validity of her/his visa as per the Nepal Immigration Regulations
